A 7-fold tie is made by folding the silk over itself seven times. Most ties fold the fabric three times around an interlining; a 7-fold uses far more silk, so the silk itself gives the tie its body. The result is a heavier, fuller tie with a rich drape and a substantial knot.
A 3-fold relies on its interlining for structure. A 7-fold builds that structure from the extra layers of silk, which takes more fabric and more hand work, and is why the 7-fold is traditionally seen as a mark of high tailoring. You feel the difference in the hand: it is softer yet more generous.
At Dolcepunta we cut and fold each 7-fold tie by hand in our Pescara atelier. We also make it fully unlined, for the lightest and most traditional version: see our unlined 7-fold ties, or go further with the 11-fold tie.
A 7-fold tie is only as good as its silk, because the silk itself becomes the structure. We choose woven silk, printed satin and printed twill with enough body to be folded seven times over, so the finished tie feels fuller in the hand and drapes with a softer, richer line.
Each 7-fold tie is folded by hand in Pescara and sent worldwide, with free shipping on every order over 150 EUR.
Folding a tie seven times takes far more silk and far more hand work than a standard tie. That is exactly why we do it: the result is a tie with presence, a generous knot and a quiet mark of high tailoring. Made by the Scapellato family since 1999.
